Dead Man Talking

I'm alive but I'm cracking no smiles
I've been driving in blackness for miles
Like a ride in a cave
Or inside of a grave,
Full of bodies they're stacking in piles.

Tom Neal narrates the tale of driving, death and doom that is Detour (Edgar G. Ulmer, 1945).

That subterranean quality really is particular to Ulmer, from his first film, The Black Cat, to his last, The Cavern.

You're right David. Ulmer's films have a uniquely odd quality about them. Subterranean, and often claustrophobic. The latter would certainly apply to The Cavern.
