Mad Lover

From the shadows he watches her show
Each evening his strange feelings grow
He's thrilled when she's burned
but still he is spurned:
She won't have a freak for a beau

In Mad Love (Karl Freund, 1935) , twisted surgeon Dr. Gogol (Peter Lorre) becomes obsessed with an actress (Frances Drake), watching night after night as she's tortured with a hot poker in a play at the Grand Guignol-styled Theatre des Horreurs.
